CIM - closed out position

On April 5, 2011 I sold all of my shares of CIM at a slight loss.  However, the dividends I received while I held the stock more than made up for the loss on the shares.  If tradition holds, the shares of CIM will continue to rise during the quarter into the $4.20 price range.

My reason for selling now is to have funds available to make other purchases if I find something interesting.

ACTC (Advanced Cell Technology) - up $0.02 today

ACTC is up 2 cents per share today.  For most stocks this is not a big deal but it is a 10% rise in the price from the previous day's closing price.

As I have said before this is a very volatile stock which makes me hesitant to buy at this level.  I am torn.  I know that there are upcoming events such as the possible announcement of a partner (this was mentioned in the conference call on March 21, 2011) and the possible beginning of Phase I trials in May or June of this year.

However, the most recent big news item caused the stock priced to go up to $0.27 per share and then drop back under $0.20 per share shortly after the news was officially released.

Hence my hesitation.  It is possible that as ACTC has finally been brought to the attention of enough investors that the stock will not drop below that $0.20 per share any more.  I am going to hold off purchasing any more ACTC for a short period to see if the price drops.  This will also allow me to determine if I want to sell any of my current holdings in another stock and move some of that money in ACTC.

CIM (Chimera Investment)

This real estate investment trust recently had a dividend which it will pay in April.  The stock price dropped and I am hopeful that it will go back up quickly.  Based upon the historical chart the price generally goes back up within one month of the dividend ex-date.

However I am hopeful it will go up quickly because I would like to sell my shares without taking a loss.  Then I can use the funds for other stocks.
